If you want to start extreme couponing, you must know this!
It has been said that the show “Extreme Couponing” is not real. That there is no way that with the cost of items these days, that coupons will make your items free. Guess what? You can get many things for free. I typically save between 50%-%100 on my grocery trips when couponing.
The couponing world is one that will give you an adrenaline rush, and save you lots of money. But you have to know what you need to do to get on the path to becoming a super saver. As an extreme couponer, I’m going to give you the inside scoop on the Top 3 Couponing Secrets Used by Extreme Couponers.
1. FIND COUPONS
There’s no way you can start couponing if you don’t get the coupons first. While this may seem obvious, many people overlook the fact that coupons come in digital form, not just in paper form. So, be sure to clip digital coupons to get the best deals.
It can also seem frustrating to find coupons, but there are so many resources to get them. You can start right here in my couponing center. You can print up to 2 of each coupon for FREE! Other options for paper coupons are the newspaper, on products, from the manufacturer (by writing a letter or printing directly from their website).
Digital coupons can easily be found by going on the retailer’s website or app. You can load these coupons directly to your store loyalty card.
2. STACK COUPONS
There are two main types of coupons. Manufacturer coupons (from the manufacturer), which are the typical coupon like the ones from the newspaper or printed online. The other type of coupon is a store coupon. This type of coupon is given by the store and are often found in flyers. Both types of coupons can be in paper or digital or paper form. Thing is, many people don’t realize that if you have one of each type of coupon (store and manufacturer) and they are both applicable to your order, you can often use both. This is called “stacking.” I like to compare stacking to a stack of pancakes. You are adding your savings on top of each other, just like a stack of pancakes.
An example of stacking coupons is if you are buying a bottle of Tide, and you have $1 off manufacturer coupon and $1 off store coupon, you can use both and get $2 off.
The main thing to remember about stacking coupons is that you can’t use two or the same type of coupon for the same item. Therefore, you can’t use two $1/off manufacturer coupons on a single bottle of Tide.
3. MATCH COUPONS TO SALE ITEMS
OnceĀ you have your coupons. The best way to maximize your savings is to match your coupons to items that are on sale. Here is an example
- Ruffles potato chips are regularly $5 a bag.
- The are on sale for $2 a bag.
- You have a $1 off manufacturer coupon and a $1 off store coupon.
- Your Ruffles potato chips are now FREE!
In this scenario, even if you only have one coupon for $1 off, you would still get the $5 bag of chips for only $1!
