These Kohl’s hacks will save you big!
I confess. I think I’m addicted to shopping at Kohl’s. I’ve figured out how to get incredible deals in store, and online. I shop there for everything from household products to clothes, electronics, and even toys. And I’m going to help you out by telling you my favorite Kohl’s hacks.
I moved due to a house fire, so I needed to replace a lot of the items in my home. Not only did I replace everything I needed with huge discounts, and free shipping when shopping online. But, I also scored Kohl’s Cash …plenty of it.
Find out how I earn free gift cards that I use at Kohl’s!
What is Kohl’s Cash?
Before we get to the Kohl’s hacks. You have to know about Kohl’s Cash. KC is the store’s way of giving money back to customers as a store credit for spending a certain amount of money. Usually, the amount of KC given is $5 or $10 for every $50 spent.
Sometimes the store will offer incentives such as giving $5 KC for only spending $25. Kohl’s Cash cannot be used immediately, but the store will specify a week when the KC can be redeemed.
How to spend Kohl’s Cash wisely
A great Kohl’s hack, is to make the most of your Kohl’s Cash by not spending it right away. The store knows that customers are eager to spend their free money, so they often will not have great coupons or promo codes during those first couple days.
Sometimes I’ll even wait PAST the expiration date of the KC in order to spend it. Yup! You read that right. I spend this cash AFTER it expires. The store will allow you to redeem your KC in-store for up to a week after it expires. Many times, that will coincide with some great coupons and promo codes.
Stack coupons and promo codes
Whether or not I have Kohl’s Cash, I will only shop there when they have coupons or promo codes that I can use on my order. The only exception to that is when I need to buy a product that is not eligible to be purchased using coupons or discounts (such as brand name sneakers like Nike, or certain electronics).
At Kohl’s, you can use more than one coupon or promo code for a specific item. For example, the Shark ION Robot R75 vacuum I just bought was on sale for $299.99 (regularly $469.99). I got it for only $148.16! Here’s how I stacked my discounts to get it so cheap:
Shark ION Robot R75 Vacuum ($469.99)
On sale for $299.99
- $10 any Household purchase coupon
- Kohl’s Cash was $78.33 off
- Kohl’s Charge Card discount 30% off (after coupons) took $63.50 off
=$148.16!!!
That was a steal! Especially since it’s wi-fi enabled, I can set a timer to have it clean my floors at a certain time, it charges itself, and so much more.
How to stack discounts and coupons at Kohl’s
As you can see with my vacuum, the store had a specific order of how they applied my discounts. Here’s the order:
1. Coupons with a set number are taken off first (ie. $10 off).
2. Kohl’s Cash is then applied
3. Percentage off coupons are applied last (ie. 30% off).
More ways to earn Kohl’s Cash
For my Shark ION vacuum purchase, I received Kohl’s Cash too! I got $20 in KC immediately ($10 for each $50 spent), PLUS it also got me $5 in KC through my free Kohl’s Rewards account.
TIP: As long as you come within $2 of the minimum purchase threshold to get Kohl’s Cash, they will still give it to you. For example, if you spend $48, but needed to spend $50 to get Kohl’s Cash, they will still issue the KC.
What Are Kohl’s Rewards?
To get the most of Kohl’s hacks, you should sign up for a free Kohl’s Rewards account. This account is a MUST, when shopping at this store.
Not only does it make it easy for a Kohl’s rep to look up an order if you have a return without a receipt, but it also accumulates points for store credits.
With Kohl’s Rewards, every $100 you spend will get you $5 in rewards. The rewards will be sent to you on the first day of the month in which you reached the 100 points mark. (ie. If you spent $40 at the store in January, then $60 in June, you will get $5 in rewards on July 1st).
Take note, the store will give you $5 for EVERY 100 points. I just racked up over 600 points for my shopping in April. On May 1st, I received $30 in Kohl’s Cash. That’s in addition to the KC I received at the time I made my purchases. Needless to say, I will be going shopping very soon.
To sign up for the free Kohl’s Rewards program here. When you go to the store, you can either provide the card they give you or your phone number. Very easy!
How To Get Free Shipping At Kohls
Paying for shipping is not cool. There are a couple of Kohl’s hacks to avoid paying for shipping:
- Use a Kohl’s free shipping promo code – They often send these codes to cardmembers or list them on their website, when they are active.
- Use store pickup – You can pick your items up on the day you order them, and avoid shipping costs. More on this later!
Kohl’s Charge Cards
I’m not one to typically advocate for credit cards. But, if you shop at a store often, and they offer great incentives for their charge card members, it may be wise to get the card. As I showed you with the purchase of the Shark ION R75 Vacuum, I received 30% off the purchase for using my Kohl’s charge card. It saved me $63.50 on that one item! Plus, I bought so much stuff that month, it saved me over $500!
In addition to bonus discounts, Kohl’s also rewards charge card members by offering free shipping at least once a month.
If you are interested in signing up for the charge card, you can do that here. They will give you a bonus discount if you are approved. I’ve seen them give as much as 35% off.
How to use Kohl’s store pick up!
When I can, I use Kohl’s store pickup. Why?
- You get a designated parking space at the store.
- Online coupon codes.
- You don’t have to waste time searching for the item.
- And it’s considered an online purchase, so that means you are eligible for cash back for online shopping.
To get cash back, I usually use Rakuten. They will usually give you about 3% back. But, I’ve seen as much as 10% back during promotions. Plus, when you sign up, you get a bonus $10, for signing up. You can do that here.
Since I do most of my shopping online, you can imagine how those rebates can add up.
Got all that?
